I just got my weekly Scrapbook Etc. newsletter in my email box. I open it up, and the first thing I see is this fun paper birthday cake! How cute would this be as a decoration for a birthday party, or to put on a co-workers desk on their special day?

Quick Way To Save Paper

Here is a quick tip to save paper... and money! If you are doing multiple layers on a page, or a photomat, cut out the middle part of the bottom layer that will be covered by the top layer.

In the example above, I cut out the middle of the blue paper that is covered by the black polka dot paper. I was then able to use those scraps to cut the blue part of the photomats!

Make Your Own Newspaper Gift Bags

Gift bags can be so expensive, so when I came across a tutorial on how to make my own out of newspaper, I was super excited!

When I was a kid, we had a family friend who would always wrap presents with the funnies section of the newspaper, and we all loved it. Not only did we get the gift, but we got a couple of laughs too! You could vary what part of the newspaper you use according to what the occasion is... the real estate section for a house warming gift, the funnies for kids, etc.

Of course, if you need a smaller bag you could always use scrapbook paper! :0)

How to Make a Paper Rose

I love cards with dimension, like this simple, but elegant card card I made. I thought I would show you how to make the roses, so you can make your own!

Start with a strip of paper approximately 1 1/2" wide and 12" long (6" for the smaller roses).

Fold the strip roughly into thirds, and then squish the folds.

Starting at one end, start rolling around itself into a circle. Use an adhesive dot to secure the end, and follow with some glue. (The adhesive dot will hold the end in place while the glue dries.)

To make the leaves, cut out a basic leaf shape. Ink the edges, and then after folding it in half, ink along the crease.

Now, just make as many roses and leaves as you want, and place them on your page or card.

And voila!

Bird Cage Lanterns

These bird cage latterns are so beautiful! I found them when I was randomly bouncing from one blog to another. I luckily stumbled upon The Bride's Cafe!

While I'm not getting married (I don't think my husband would appreciate that!), there are so many gorgeous ideas that could be used in my home, or for special occasions. I think I'm going to make some of these latterns for my daughter's room.

The list of projects I want to do just keeps growing, and growing!!

How To Use Busy Patterns

There are some super cute papers out there, but they are so busy that sometimes it's hard to figure out how to use them. You want to make sure that your backgrounds and embellishments enhance your photos, and don't take the attention away from them. After all, the feature on your scrapbook pages should be the pictures!

Try this... if you have a paper with a busy pattern, keep it in the background by using it as borders for your page. You will help make your photograph pop by surrounding it with a simple pattern or solid color, while still getting to use the cute paper!

Martha Stewart definitely comes up with some good ideas! If you are having a party this holiday season, or even just having a few guests over, these simple charms are an inexpensive, but nice touch that will serve a practical purpose. Gather up your scrap paper, and use any of your craft punches to make these cute little name tags to help your guests keep track of their drink.

Unique Birthday Present

Ok, so.... this year I am turning 30! Not until October, but don't tell anyone, because I refuse. I decided that I am going to stay 29 forever. I am going to just keep celebrating my 29th birthday year, after year, after year.

So even though I will never be able to receive this adorable gift, it definitely made me smile! I found this great idea over at Sisters' Stuff. Too, too cute!

I found the beautiful toppers you see above at a great blog called A Little Lovely. If you have a party or celebration coming up, this is a really easy, really cute way to personalize cupcakes for any occasion.

This would be great if your child is like mine, and they pick birthday party themes that are not available at the party store. You could print a themed picture for the center of the topper instead of words.

You know it's going to be a good day when you come across a great new blog (well new to me), and you find an adorable, easy project like this. Inspiring Creations has a complete tutorial on how to make these bright and cheery Spring Blocks.

I actually have the perfect place already picked out for them, right next to my pretty flowers. I know it's completely off topic, but I have to tell you... I bought some beautiful pink gerberas at the grocery store three weeks ago, and they are still perfect! Actually, they are still drinking the water... who would have thought?

Anyways, back to the blocks... you could easily change these to match any holiday or season. I am not big on St. Patrick's Day, but no matter how big the holiday you could make a set to put out and always look a little festive.

I am definitely one of those people that has a bazillion magazines and recipe books that I scan through everytime I plan my shopping list. Recipe Box Redo

Hi All... I know it has been too long since my last post, but I'm here!!! You know how life gets super crazy and the next thing you know, it's two weeks later? Well, that has pretty much been my last two weeks. Busy is good though, right?

My son started Little League, and I volunteered to be "Team Mom"... what was I thinking???? Actually, I think it is going to be a lot of fun, but it definitely entails a lot more than I realized! One of those things is a gift basket auction... each team donates a gift basket, and the team mom (me) is responsible for getting the donations and putting it all together. So in case you were wondering why I am telling you all this.... we need donations!!!! If you have an online business you would like to promote (or if you have a business that happens to be in San Diego) and you would like to donate an item or gift certificate, email me and let me know!

Ok, now on to the fun stuff...
