Taking a Break

I've always said there are not enough hours in the day, and I have realized that I am several hours short. So, in order to gain a few of those back I have decided to officially take a break from blogging. The older posts will all still be here, so you can check back for references, and hopefully sometime in the not-so-distant future blogging will make it back into the schedule. Until then, keep checking the website, because a lot of those hours are going to creating new things!

Keep scrapping!!!!

April? Really???

It's April? Seriously? And not only is it April, but it's the MIDDLE of April?!!! Where did March go? Today is a true case of April showers bring May flowers, so I think I might need my galoshes! That or maybe I should just stay inside and get my rear in gear. Time to get back to work, and back to blogging!

Handwriting to Calligraphy

One of the easiest and most personal ways to make a title is to write it yourself. Of course most of the time our writing is not fancy enough, or perfect enough to be used for the title. One way of fancying it up (yes, I'm making up words now), is to use a calligraphy pen. If you are like me though, my calligraphy always looks like a 5 year old did it. So I learned a long time ago that I could make my regular handwriting look like calligraphy by just adding some thickness at the curves of the letters. This is actually REALLY easy, and very forgiving.

Start by writing your word, or words.

Draw lines around the curves as shown below. This will give you your width.

Now, just fill in between the lines. If your lines are not perfect, it's ok, you can go over them to adjust a little.

You can make your curves as subtle or as bold as you want. If you want your lines a little bolder, just add some width onto the curves as shown below.

There you go! You now have a title worthy of your beautiful pages.

Cute Kitchen Art

It's that day of the week, and New Stuff Tuesday isn't ready. We actually went out of town for the long weekend, and the website didn't get updated. So, I'll be putting new stuff up throughout the week, so be sure to check the shop.

Anyhoo, I got an email this morning from Better Homes and Gardens, and found this cute kitchen art. What a great use of leftover scraps!

I Love You Beery Much

It's the day before Valentine's Day! I can't believe how fast this week has flown by. If you still need a gift for that special man in your life, here is an easy one that he is sure to love!
Go to the store and get a 6-pack of his favorite beer. Or, just for fun, grab one of those really big bottles.

If you chose the 6-pack, black out a border around the top of the box, and the middle of both sides, as shown below. (The 12" paper is just a little short to reach the top and halfway around the box, so this way it will just have a black strip showing.)

Grab a piece of 12x12 scrapbook paper and cut it in half, so you have two pieces of 6x12 paper.

Line the paper along the bottom of the box, and center it... then glue it in place. Do this for both sides.

If you are doing the big bottle, measure the height of the label, and cut the paper a 1/2" larger. Line the paper up so that it covers the label on the bottle and glue it in place. If your bottle has a small label at the top of the neck, you may choose to cut a small strip to cover that also.

Print out the label for the box by going here. If you are doing the big bottle, get the smaller label by going here. If you are having trouble printing the correct size directly from you internet browser, you can go here and save the image to your computer. You can then open the image and resize it as needed in any photo editing program, or even in Word.

Cut out the label and center it on the box or on the bottle.

And there you go. One "beery" nice Valentine gift for your man!

Painting With A Toilet Paper Roll

This is such a fantastic idea from Creative Carmella. Paint circles with an empty toilet paper roll! I cannot wait to try this... it will make great background papers!

Roast Beef Sliders

These roast beef sliders are so yummy!! I found the recipe over at Plain Chicken, and I have made them a couple of times now. I'll admit I cheated though and used store bought chipotle mayo. I serve them with a side of steamed broccoli, and dinner is a hit. I think the kids like it that the sandwiches are on the smaller side.

So break out the slow cooker and let it do the cooking for you. Can you tell I love my crock pot?

Extreme Paper-Piecing

My favorite thing about scrapbooking is definitely paper-piecing. I'll admit glitter definitely comes in a close second... after all, who doesn't like sparkly things???

So after playing around on Pinterest doing an extensive search of the internet, here are some of my favorite "extreme" works of paper-piecing art, also known as paper sculptures.

I love you because...

I love you because....

I think this is such a cute idea! A Content Housewife gives an easy tutorial to make this little message board. How sweet to leave messages to your hubby or kids, and for them to leave one back to you!

What a relief... I'm not crazy!

I've always thought that all of us crafters were at least a little crazy, but come to find out.... not so much!

According to a recent book...

...certain career fields attract more psychos than others. "Craftsperson" (i.e. scrapbooker!) is actually the 4th LEAST likely to attract psychopaths!

Yep, there it is!

Of course, maybe we are just better at hiding it... or they haven't met the right ones yet. After all, we have all definitely met that one or two out there... you know who I'm talking about. The ones you just nod your head and slowly back away.

Here are the top 10 fields most likely to attract psychopaths, and the fields that are the least likely.

Highest Rates of Psychopathy:

1. CEO
2: Lawyer
3: Media (Television/Radio)
4: Salesperson
5: Surgeon
6: Journalist
7: Police Officer
8: Clergy Person
9: Chef
10: Civil Servant

Lowest Rates of Psychopathy:

1: Care Aide
2: Nurse
3: Therapist
4: Craftsperson
5: Beautician/Stylist
6: Charity Worker
7: Teacher
8: Creative Artist
9: Doctor
10: Accountant

Embellishment Sets

I was looking through our embellishments today, and realized that a lot of them would make really good sets. So, I went through and grouped some of them together, and gave them a little discount. Head over to our embellishment section and take a look. I'm sure there are other groupings that I am missing, so let me know which ones you would use together.

Korean Style Short Ribs

Ok, its time for another delicious dinner that cooks itself, so you have an extra hour or so to work on your latest scrapbooking project.

I have made these Korean style short ribs from What's Cookin' Chicago a couple of times now, and we all love them!  They are super easy to throw together in the morning, and they smell awesome as they cook all day. All you need to do us steam up some broccoli and rice right before you are ready to eat, and you have a complete dinner ready to go.

Bon Appetit!

Pursonal Style

I have always liked shopping at small businesses. Now being one myself, I realize even more just how important it is. So when I come across an awesome small company, I want everyone else to know about it too!

I was looking for a new portable office (i.e. shoulder bag) and came across this little handmade beauty in an online shop called Pursonal Style...

Isn't it pretty? It was love at first sight.

I ordered it, and it shipped the very next day. When I got it and opened the box, this is what I found...

Yes, it was wrapped like a present! I was already excited to get the package, but that just made it 10 times better!

The bag is absolutely beautiful! The quality of work is outstanding and the stitching on it is perfect! I love that it has the little pocket in front, which is perfect for my phone and keys. There are also two pockets inside to hold smaller items, one of which closes with a button so it's more private and secure.

So, if you are looking for a new bag, or just like looking, go over to Pursonal Style!

P.S. I am not being paid in any way, shape or form to endorse this business. I just had a wonderful experience, got a great product and wanted to share it with everyone!

Dream Office

I found my dream office over at the HGTV website... a pink table and chalkboard wall? Yes please!!
